This, I suppose, would be an attempt to record my intellectual meanderings…
My perspective of the current general state of things, both here in the United States and around the world, and the obligatory introduction, necessitate this prologue.
In the tradition of the martyrs, traitors and heretics redeemed by the hindsight of history, I will do my best to provoke original reflection.
I write to honor my mother and wife, and others, who inspired the first step of this journey and for the women and slaves punished for learning to write or read, any native culture that was “coerced” out of their “traditions” and all the supporting characters history has given us…or taken away.
I believe “the blog” is the greatest manifestation of the fundamental essence of the First Amendment.
I believe that free speech and free press, respectful vocal dissent without fear of unlawful reprimand, and a sensibly moderated conduit of inclusive community discussion are the blueprints for a healthy democracy. The foundation is, and will always be, a well-informed and active citizenry.
I believe that there is something that connects all things.
I believe an assertion of a pronoun’s legitimacy to lay claim to the entity which we speak is something between arrogant and blasphemous. Therefore, I consider myself an agnostic.
I believe that the divinely inspired legends of prophets and sons of gods, and the metaphorical coincidences of angels, demons, floods, creation, etc., which are shared by all cultures, nullifies any claim to being “the one and only way.” Therefore, I’m labeled an atheist.
I think pure liaise-fair capitalism is as dangerous as fascism.
I think that the model for a healthy economy builds on local economies.
I think the most under-examined part of “economies of scale” is the small scale: fruits and vegetables that travels less, household energy and non-potable water production and bartering goods or services with your neighbors. – How many of neighbor A’s baked treats would you want for attending to neighbor B’s clogged drain? (Babysitting for yard work, your tomatoes for my herbs, my fruit for your mechanic skills, my lack of fear of heights for your lack of fear of creepy-crawlies)
I think Jefferson was correct proposing the Constitution should be re-written every generation, although the definition of a generation is debatable, or maybe “no more than four times a century.”
I think the advancement of medicine and technology has outpaced our social and biological evolution; and we are helpless if we can’t be candid about both the morality and mortality of our species.
I know the Earth is not flat, and is more than 10,000 yrs old.
I know the theories of gravity and of evolution are reliable.
I know I don’t know everything, and no one ever has.
I know we banish(ed) ourselves from “Eden”, “Utopia”, and “Heaven”.
I know both my flesh and my mind are imperfect.
I am, therefore I think.
